The M5B bulb was designed as a miniature version of the popular No. 5B. It has the same 20ms time to peak and the same power output as the No. 5B at about 1/4th the size. It can use the M-sync to synchronize with leaf shutters at all speeds. It can still be used with F and X-sync up to speeds of 1/30th of a second.
Because clear bulbs were designed for use with black and white films, the "B" style bulbs such as the M5B were designed with a blue coating to assist in color correction when using flash with color films. Because of this coating, these bulbs may operate with 1/2 to 1 stop less light output as their clear counterparts.
